Breton specialities: the products of Morbihan

In Southern Brittany, several gourmet specialities delight connoisseurs and visitors alike. Whether you are a lover of savoury dishes or sweet treats, you are bound to find something to your liking among the products of Morbihan!

Savoury Breton specialities

- Sardines from La Belle-Iloise

Since 1932, the Belle-Iloise cannery in Quiberon has been renowned for its delicious seafood products, particularly its canned sardines, mackerel and soups. The freshly caught fish are completely hand-crafted and seasoned with high quality raw materials.

- Cider from the Gorvello distillery

In the town of Sulniac, a stone's throw from Vannes, the Gorvello distillery grows cider apple trees for the production of cider but also apple juice, cider vinegar and apple-based aperitifs such as pommeau and fine Bretagne or lambig.

- The andouille of Guémené

The andouille of Guémené-sur-Scorff is prepared according to very precise codes which make it unique. It is made up of chowders arranged in concentric circles (large intestines of the pig), smoked and dried, then cooked in a broth for 3 to 4 hours. It can be eaten as an aperitif or on a cake!

Sweet Breton specialities

- Salidou cream

Salidou could also be called the Breton Nutella (without palm oil but with butter!). This creamy salted butter caramel cream is a pure delight on Breton pancakes, bread or as an accompaniment to ice cream. This delicacy is made in Quiberon.

- Quiberon's niniches

A speciality of the Maison d'Armorine since 1946, Niniches are cylinder-shaped lollipops that come in various flavours (with fruit or salted butter caramel). A speciality that is listed as part of France's culinary heritage and has been voted "Best Candy in France"!

- Desplousse chocolate oysters

In Vannes, in the Desplousse chocolate factory, famous dark or milk chocolate oysters filled with old-fashioned praline are made. Invented in Belle-Ile in 1904 by the Master Pastry Chef Raymond Desplousse, these chocolate oysters have been the success of the Vannes chocolate factory since 1914.

- The Breton cake

We must not forget the Breton cake! This pastry was born in the Lorient region, it keeps perfectly well over time and accompanied the sailors during their long campaigns at sea. Plain or filled, with jam or salted butter caramel, it carries the many flavours of the region with its shortbread pastry with a good taste of semi-salted butter.
